Seattle International Film Festival Kicks Off Today

The acclaimed Seattle International Film Festival gets underway virtually today as it moves online for the first time ever.

Running until Sunday, April 18, the event gives film fans the chance to check out some of the highest-rated releases from across the globe - all from the comfort of their own homes.

In total, the SIFF programme will showcase 219 films, including 93 features from 69 different countries.

These range from Palestinian director Ameen Nayfeh's powerful socio-political drama 200 Meters to Rachel Carey's witty black comedy Deadly Cuts.

SIFF said it "remains committed to the perseverance of cinema and elevating new and diverse voices in filmmaking", with 125 of its films made by female-identifying directors and 61% of its titles coming from first or second time filmmakers.

Multiple competitions will be held throughout the event, including Audience Awards for Best Narrative Film, Best Documentary Film, and Best Short Film as chosen by movie buffs themselves.

Film Only Passes and six-pack film bundles are now available on the SIFF website.
